With Conviction

I like this video sent in by a reader in South Carolina, you know?  It’s like good maybe.  So if you have, you know, a second to see an impressive mix of poetry,  graphics arts, and typography then you should, well, I would click this like if you have a second.

You’ll see the point when you watch the video.

The original poem is by Taylor Mali but his student Ronnie Bruce uses videography skills to elevate the poem to a place where the art really speaks. Makes we wonder what Ronnie could do with Longfellow. Or if Longfellow would've even been famous had he been forced to “publish” in today's multi-disciplinary world.

Do you Doodle? Everyone Does. It’s Ok. Your Teacher Never should have Yelled at You.

This is a great article on a passion of mine.  Why we doodle.  What it says about us.  And why our teachers should have just left us alone.  http://goo.gl/q5Bwd

The article ends saying we should all doodle at work and that group doodle can free the mind to be the creative force it was designed to be.

So doodle.

Adding shadows and shading creates visual interest and realism, making your doodles three-dimensional.

Bird on a Wire

When Twitter messes up, birds die in hordes.  Here’s a sampling:

The fail whale has long been associated with a Tweet breakdown.

But today on Mashable was the dead red bird.

And a slightly different adaption.

These guys from a computer hacking blog are kind of fun.

Twitter has a couple of interesting ones, reserved for major errors.

This one is interesting in that the bird is ok, but his speech is affected.

More death.

I still don’t have any idea why I would want to use Twitter, but when they get hacked the bird carnage is amusing.

The Art Time of Year on this Blog

Why do people hate this public art piece so?

If you aren’t familiar with Portland, there’s a median that was redesigned in 2007 which is suppose to mimic the waves of the ocean with waves of undulating grass.  For my part, it’s an interesting piece in the middle of an otherwise ignorable area. Here are a couple of shots.

Every couple of weeks, there’s a new article or buzz around town on how the art sucks and they never should’ve built it. This week’s article made it to the Press Herald.  Of all of the things in Portland that need improvement, why focus on this?  I think the waves are nice.
